Acadia University Piano Intensive

The Acadia University Piano Intensive is a program for young pianists aged 13 to 18, hosted by the Acadia University School of Music. This weekend retreat offers young artists an opportunity to meet and work closely with university faculty through private instruction, public performance, workshops, and social activities.

• The program includes:
  • Masterclasses and private instruction (minimum 2.5 hours)
  • Group activities
  • Workshops on topics such as performance anxiety, practicing, and audience engagement
  • Additional classes offered on a rotating basis each year (e.g., theory, history, improvisation, keyboard harmony)
  • Rehearsal studios equipped with pianos
  • Networking activities with faculty and student community
  • Access to faculty recitals and performances
  • Opportunity to perform in student recital(s)

Faculty Bios

Dr. Cindy Thong

Dr. Cindy Thong is a Canadian pianist with a polyvalent career as a pedagogue, researcher, and performer. She has performed throughout Canada and internationally, and has been a finalist and prizewinner in numerous competitions. Her research interests include performance psychology and mental skills training.

Dr. Michelle Boyd

Dr. Michelle Boyd is a musicology instructor at the Acadia School of Music. She teaches first-year keyboard and is the director of the Acadia University Singers. She holds degrees from Acadia University and the University of Toronto.

Mary Castello

Mary Castello is a sought-after accompanist, recital partner, and piano teacher. She is the Collaborative Pianist for Acadia University's School of Music and teaches piano privately to students of all ages.

Dr. Krissy Keech

Dr. Krissy Keech is passionate about piano, pedagogy, and practicing. She completed her PhD in Music Education at McGill University, focusing on elements of piano pedagogy and teacher effectiveness.

Dr. Edward Enman

Dr. Edward Enman is a classical pianist and composer. His original musical style has been shaped by various influences, and he strives to create meaningful connections with listeners while breaking down stylistic barriers in the classical music world.
